Content:
Hoya Pubicalix, or Wax ivy, is an exotic plant that adapts well to indoor conditions. For timely flowering, the main thing is to create ideal climatic conditions.
What does it look like, which family it belongs to
Hoya Pubicalix belongs to the Kutrovy family - it is a perennial plant that grows in the form of a liana. The flower has long and dense oval-shaped leaves, which are painted bright green with medium-sized gray spots on the surface. In length, the plates can reach 15-20 cm, and in width - only 4-6 cm.
Briefly about the history of appearance
Although Pubicalix is found in the wild on the coasts of Australia, the habit of indoor cultivation came from Asian countries, especially India.
Homeland of the plant
The shrub grows in tropical Australian and East Asian forests.
Features of home care
It is not difficult to take care of the hoya, the main thing is to create optimal climatic conditions for detention.
Temperature
The flower does not tolerate heat well, therefore it is not recommended to increase the temperature of the content above +25 degrees. During the rest period, it is lowered to +18 degrees.
Lighting
Daylight hours should be long, but it is advisable not to allow bright lighting. The pot is best placed not on the south, but on the west and north windows.
Watering
Tropical shrubs require abundant and frequent watering. In summer, hoya is watered every 2-3 days; during dry periods, the procedure is carried out daily. With the arrival of winter, 1 watering per week is enough.
Spraying
Spraying must be carried out without fail, they are able to lower the temperature and humidify dry air.
Humidity
To keep a flower in a healthy and decorative form, you need to maintain a high humidity in the room - at least 80%.
Priming
Ready-made substrates for succulents and cacti work well. At home, the soil mixture is prepared from sod light earth, humus, crushed tree bark, perlite and charcoal. Before planting, the bottom of the pot must be covered with drainage material.
Top dressing
It is most effective to use ready-made complex mineral fertilizers as top dressing. It is important that they contain a lot of potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus. It is best to feed the plant in liquid form once a month.
When and how it blooms
Hoya (Hoya) Pubicalix blooms for a short time, but surprises with the unusual shape and appearance of its buds. The inflorescences are spherical, each of them has up to 30 small buds. Most often there are pink, scarlet and grayish flowers. The surface of the buds has small villi that make the flower velvety to the touch.
The flowers are shaped like a perfect five-pointed star. The lower row of petals is almost twice the size of the upper one.
Flowering period
On average, the Hoya Pubicalix species blooms for 1.5 to 2 weeks. Some varieties can bloom for a month, but this is rare in indoor conditions.
Pruning
Unlike other types of hoya, Publicis normally tolerates pruning, but there is no particular need for it. Only dried or damaged stems and leaves need to be removed.
How does it multiply
Hoya is bred in different ways, but the seed method is practically not used in home floriculture.
Propagation by cuttings
It is most effective to propagate hoya by cuttings. They should be at least 5 cm long and have several leaves and buds. The sections are dipped in water and covered with foil to protect from the sun. After 14 days, the cuttings will give roots and the foil can be removed.
Growing from seeds
The seeds are first dried well. They need to be buried in the substrate no more than 2 cm. To create greenhouse conditions, it is recommended to cover the box with foil.
Division by sheets
Not an easy way that requires certain skills and experience. The leaves are cut from a healthy adult flower. After they are soaked in a nutritional strengthening and disinfecting solution. Then it is buried in the substrate and moistened.
Transfer
The procedure is carried out only when necessary. Most often, it is carried out in the first years of a flower's life, when the root system grows and the old container becomes too cramped. Another reason for a transplant may be fungal infections.
Possible growing problems
Hoya Pubicalyx often has problems, especially in the fall.
Pests
Great harm to hoya is caused by scale insects, which multiply especially quickly in dry air. They eat fleshy leaves and lay their larvae on them, the plant withers, turns pale and dies.
Another pest is a mealybug, which leaves white mucus on the leaves. These whitish insects are visible on foliage and are completely removed by washing the flower with soapy water.
Other problems
Due to stagnant moisture and lack of loosening of the soil, Hoya Pubicalix is prone to root rot and gray mold.
Too dry air provokes drying of the leaf plates, and yellowing or paleness may indicate a lack of certain mineral elements in the soil.
